Epilepsy Awareness

This e-learning course is useful to people with epilepsy and anyone else affected by epilepsy either at work or in the family. It aims to raise awareness of the condition and explores the different types of seizures and the impact they can have on people's everyday lives. By providing learners with a better understanding of the condition, it will enable them to offer more effective support to those in their care.

The course is broken down in to 3 bite-sized units with the following titles:

• Understanding Epilepsy
• Recognising Seizures and Providing Support
• Lifestyle Implications

On completion of this course learners will be able to:

• Understand the importance of knowing each service user's warning signs and support needs
• Explain the impact epilepsy can have on a person's lifestyle and state of mind
• List the dos and don'ts when supporting someone through a seizure and explain what to do in an emergency
• Understand the basics of how the brain works and what causes seizures
